looks like a fun day. I don't think we could homeschool without the computer or ipad. Everytime we read about something or have a question we go straight to google! Can't wait till next week to start our Unschooling Adventure....with a bit of mommy "wants" thrown in....oh its soooo hard to give up on what I want to teach. Keep us posted on how your unschooling experiment goes. looks like fun stuff.

See, I had all these books layer out to do read alouds "just in case". It's wasn't happening. It was a fun day. I know that learning happened. The kids got along really great!!! I just felt very unaccomplished. I think that's why unschooling wouldn't work for me full time. However, it's only been a day. Maybe I need more time :)
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of Eli holding a toothbrush!! So cute! It seems like the Unschooling day worked out really well for them! Interesting how THEY seemed to have learned but YOU felt unaccomplished, like you weren't doing enough. Could that be the voice of all the years of your own schooling and what is considered "real" learning vs not "real" learning?
DeleteI think that has a lot to do with it Kristy. It's hard sometimes, for me, to see learning In all things. It feels so much like summer vacation that it's hard for me to feel comfortable. However, I've read enough about unschooling to know that, at first, for most of us raised in public schools, it's not supposed to. Maybe in time...
ReplyDeleteEven if I need to mail it to you, you have GOT to read the book I keep recommending! She discusses ALL this stuff and how nervous she gets that they're not learning enough and then she gives them worksheets and assignments and then realizes that is not what works for her kids and goes back to trying to trust the Unschooling process. It's a daily battle with herself sh had to fight at first, even though her kids, in hindsight, we're absolutely learning and fine.
